This Small Space

This Small Space

A Poem by rachel
"

Simple dreams and inspirations.

"

I dream of having a downtown apartment
A little studio in a rickety complex
One of many dozens lined up
None more elaborate than the others

The wooden stairs would groan
Bouncing echoes in the hall
Scratched floorboards would vibrate
With the slam of doors, or strangers music
Playing too loud for thin walls.

The windows would offer a less than spectacular view
Perhaps flaking paint on bricks across the alley
A glimmer of sunlight would drop from above.

The rent would be a little too high
My salary, a little too low.
I'm not asking for much.
Just enough to be happy in this little space
Alone with my books, my coffee, and my art
All visual reminders that the world really is, in fact
    ....beautiful.

For once, I'm not writing when I'm in a bad mood. Writing poetry is so much more difficult when I'm feeling happy and inspired.

A excellent poem. A place to rest and find peace. The dream of a apartment in the center of the city was once my dream. Hang with the writers and roam the city at will. Now I desire distance from the city and the cars. A very good poem.

You just reminded me of the appartment I was living in when I was 18, I couldn't wait to live in the real world in fact I was so eager to be inspired by everything around me, a possitive look on life is always good, fantastic write..

Yes, I can write like the wind when I'm real happy, or real sad, but in between... ugh, writers block too many times.

Really enjoyed the poem.
What more do we really need but our own little corner in the world.
