Sometimes they feel better than reality

These words have made me laugh; made me cry

Made me clap the covers shut mid-sentence

And slam the novel down in anger.

 

This fabrication, delicately written on off-white pages

Feels more like reality than reality does.

           -  It’s much easier to believe fiction sometimes.

 

The solid things, the tangible things

Tell me tidbits of truth I’d rather deny.

They struggle to meet my gaze.

 

But I consciously shift away

Breathe in the delicious cent of lies

And find something real after all

In words that can’t possibly be true.

 

Author's Note

I was inspired to write this after I literally threw a book across my bed in anger - It's a fictional story, but it struck me then that the words had more impact on my emotions than reality. I tend to push away my REAL drama but become so easily self-absorbed in fantasies. ....I feel the wording needs more editing - Im open to suggestions on this piece.
