Rain

Rain

A Poem by rachel

It’s raining again.

Just like it has been all week

The forecast says it won’t stop for three more days.

                …I like that.

The pitter-patter of droplets

Hitting the dying tomato plants is soothing.

But my little flower in its pot died.

It suffocated from lack of sunlight

And slowly wilted.

                But I like the rain.

I miss the thunder storms of Florida

And the soaked forests of New Hampshire.

I miss the trees.

I miss the birds.

And the random wild animals that would wander by.

The most wildlife I see now are squirrels

Who probably wouldn’t recognize a forest if they saw one.

Not necessarily a sad poem, but still one of missing the countryside. This inner-city where I live is wearing on me and I miss the old dirt roads and forests.

that's really cool. i especially like the last lines: "the most wildlife i see now are squirrelwho probably wouldn't recognize a forest if they saw one." to emphasize that point, i would make the hypothetical forest slap them in the face or something instead of enter their field of vision, but that's just mean old me, smacking innocent squirrels with forests XP. it's a really cool idea, that even the wildlife is urbanizing and losing that hint of naturey goodness that it's supposed to have. a cool idea, yet really frightening. it seems like a wake-up call to western society. great write; keep it up!

I felt like this when I moved to the city. I missed being able to see the stars and seeing more nature verses civilzation. It sometimes makes me sad to see those beautiful pictures of sunrises and sunsets over mountains, oceans and forests and not be able to be a part of that anymore.
