A Poem by Rachelah
"

Running out of time for that tea party

"

12

The clock tolls, I jump, false alarm

Not out just yet

Plenty of time for this tea party

Half a day, in fact

Doesn’t matter to you,

Does it, nothing does

Whether we live,

Whether we lose

It’s only your soul on the line

You weren’t using it anyhow

Should’ve bet your mirror, then

Matters more than anything

What’s that then

A tear in your eye

Greener than my envy

All those times you strayed

Never claim I hurt you

Don’t suppose I had the chance

That heart’s locked tight

Unlike those pants, love

Now I’ve upset you

At least you say so

Always were an actress though

Even after the sale

How does it feel, then

Now there’s just a hole

Where there should have been an organ

But you sold it long ago

At least, that’s what he said

The Devil told me so

He always was a liar, though

But the spark’s gone from your eyes

Take a drink from the bottle

Just to take some time

Something to do with my mouth

Other than you, that is

Don’t read into that

Nothing I’ve ever said

Ever mattered at all

Why start now

Sure, this may be it

Just these twelve more hours

Twelve more entries of life

Until it’s all over

We won’t both walk out

Not the way the deal works, babe

Meant to be a martyr, then

Maybe not anymore

That’ll surprise you

When you see I’ve done it

Damned you for eternity

Then I guess we’ll see

That love you claimed to have

Where did it happen to go

Can’t locate mine either

Suppose it got lost on the way

Along with many things

A conscience for you

As well as that heart

A soul for me, a care

What might be different

I wonder, sometimes

We were happy, at first

You weren’t lying then

Doesn’t matter, though

Does it, nothing does

Whether we’ve loved

Whether we’ve lost

Running out of that time

I see, the hands are moving

Yours aren’t though

They’ve stilled on my throat

11

The clock strikes again

No room to jump

You’re in the way

Plenty of time for tea
