The edges of sadness

The edges of sadness

A Poem by rachael dunn

Hope is ...

Carried away on ocean tides.

Treacherous waters,

surround the lighthouse.

Sometimes wounds bleed a darker red,

staining blurred snippets of memory,

from impoverished depths.

Bubbles rise to the surface

pouring out bottled tears.

Rotating light shines,

illuminating the edges of sadness.

Waiting to rescue lost souls

and abandoned hearts.

Awash with forgiveness

Sometimes in vain,

hope waits here,

Patiently,

Unconditional.

I love the metaphor of the lighthouse "Waiting to rescue lost souls / and abandoned hearts" from the trauma of memories, depicted here as the 'treacherous waters' that can be stirred up by new 'wounds'. And then the quiet grace of hope and forgiveness. Hope i'm somewhere close with this interpretation... the poem is beautifully crafted with strong visual images.

Hello Rachael
I love the ocean theme, and the mention of the "lighthouse, that is well placed in the stanza. In the second stanza, I like "bottled tears" I have the feeling of a message in a bottle, with a note of sorrow inside.

But Ahhh... The "thing with feathers" waits "patiently, unconditional."
Hope is the light that shines in the beams of the lighthouse
What a beautiful thought.. being "awash with forgiveness" which
never is in vain, as it is a gift of sorts in itself to oneself...foregiveness is never wasted, even if the receiver doesn't respond to it.

I am very happy that I stopped by ..
Thank you Rachael
