To know these lands

To know these lands

A Poem by rachael dunn

Universal medium of communication,

A spatial concept of a nation.

Cartographic knowledge preserved,

for Earth’s monumental search.

A land marked aspect, a mountainous trail

Without a map would surely fail.

Setting latitude’s apart, for ocean voyage,

or a walk through a park.

When we are lost and fail to find,

beacons of light wash up with memories tide.

While others choose to travel alone

Seek out new journeys, turn away from home.

A measurement of human endeavour,

may we travel without unwitting error.

Language culture needs no bounds,

we all read maps to know these lands.
