escapeA Poem by girlandpenThe words
she’s learned from the books she’s read Float
around inside her head Writing
stories Painting
pictures Creating a
life she’s never led
A green,
grassy meadow beneath a blue sky Birds sing
in the tree up high No parents
fighting She keeps
writing Writing
away her pain
She
pretends she’s from a far-off land In a
loving home with a caring hand Surrounded
by laughing Surrounded
by smiling Surrounded
by family who’s always there
But where
she opens her eyes, she’s back in her room A dark
little corner shadowed with gloom Hiding
from Mom Waiting
for Dad
Her
imagination is her only escape © 2017 girlandpenAuthor's Note
