As you can see, this was written a few years ago. I am meticulous about the dates because my writing reminds me of the emotion I felt at those times, if not the particular event.

This is one of the most beloved poems of mine that I had written. I hope it moves you as much as it still moves me. 

Risen to the Test

The air is seeping out

And the water’s pouring in

I try to form a shout

But my head starts to spin

 

My breath comes heavy

And I give it my all

I try to stay steady

But I manage to fall

 

The glass shatters

And I see my face crack

Now, nothing else matters

I wish I could take it all back

 

I see a page of yesterday

And heave a sigh as I say

I’d snatch it all if I may

To infuse life into my today

 

Yet the door has closed

And the sea is dry

Gone is your Host

You’ve no more chances to try

 

I wish I’d done it all

Wish I gave it my best

Wish I wanted to take the fall

And risen to the test
