I Am From

I Am From

A Poem by r4wr
"

"I Am From" is a birds eye view of my life that you as a reader may not understand but which I will always feel attached to.

"

I am from blue jeans
from pale skin
from red hair
from brown eyes
from a big family.
I am from Sundays at Church, singing in the choir.
I am from texting like a crazy person
from laughing and smiling
from losing what seemed like everything in order to see it all.
I am from sadness and black dresses.
I am from breaking my toe and not crying until I got inside because I didn’t want the boys to see.
I am from the “perfect” cup of tea
from fifty the deaf cat
from delicious mud-pies
from never being allowed to jump on the trampoline at Grandmas house
from the heat, NOT the snow.
I am from feeling trapped because I never knew who I was.
I am from sea turtles and the Disney Channel
I am from getting lost in the lives of Morgan and Raederle and from tears when I got to the last page.
I am from true hearts.
I am from the Sadie Hawkins Dance and from singing with markers instead of microphones for an invisible audience.
I am from needing a best friend and always having her close by
from pickles and watermelon
from the Christmas Hippopotamus who will protects me always
from getting drunk the Mormon way
from being “broken”.
I am from energy drinks and creepy gnomes on 340
from Robyn driving my truck and screaming when it stalled.
I am from matching shoes, green and pink.
I am from flushing hair down the toilet
from loving princesses because of Kayla and Britt-Britt-Meow-Moo
from flaming naked pumas
from having the same love of green tea as Char
from my first spray tan. I am from popsicles with Jenny and a room with hardly any furniture.
I am from “93” and “Beaner” (don’t ask why?) who will always be there
from potatoes on the grill
from potatoes on the grill
...and BACON
from painting our fingernails every Wednesday
from Lion-Faces
from still being loved even after the 4th of July.
I am from hand-made, one-of-a-kind, birdhouses
from late night talks on the dryer, movies, and Hobo under the snack cabinet.
I am from “That’s right!”
from Julie, who loves Brewbakers.
I am from wishing I could’ve met MeeMaw and Grandaddy
from Hobo playing with the E-E
from nibblets every day
from being sad but never having to go to sleep without my “little brother”.
I am from the $2 theatres parking lot, Nathans proposal
from my baby elephant
from Scarface and “I Love You.”
I am from the best Christmas ever ( at 5am!).
I am from Define 09.
I am from “Better get a bucket for my throw up.”
from knowing I am the One
from amazing times in the kitchen
from folding the sheets - just so "
from the strongest hugs
from seeing myself in the future knowing I wont be alone
from holding hands, “like you love me.”
from a date and a fawn who waits for his mommy
from making faces in the mirror
from sitting in the shower laughing just because.
I am from yesterday.
I am from today.
I am from “3008, you so 2000 and late, I got my BOOM BOOM POW!”

Awesome poem. I love these things. They seem to be a mashup of man ideas, but there is a spirit of cohesion that pulls it all together. nice work.

I am so glad you finally put this "literary rambling" up. I'm loving literary rambling right now. I truly think that everyone should write a poem like this. It really helps you remember the good things in life and the strength you get from the not so good things. I see you in every line of this poem. It's heartfelt and lovely.
Love you!
