Capes

Capes

A Poem by Quinn W

I'm a sensitive type.
But the world doesn't want me.
They don't want sensitive,
They want strong and hard.
They want a superhero.

I'll give them that superhero.

I go home and put on my cape
to mask my sensitivities.

Vodka.
Marijuana.
Cocaine.
Ecstasy.

I am not afraid.
I am not a superhero.
I am still hurt.

Excellent shorthand glimpse of how society can have expectations which we pretend to fulfill. Your analogy is brilliant, how the various fortifying substances bolster our courage & provide "the cape" to our hero mentality. Love this snippet of real life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
