Adonis and the BoarA Poem by Quinn W
I ran down off the hill from her
to be set free to hunt the boar. "Adon, Adon, I beg thee not for by his tusks you will be caught!" Down the ledge and through the field I fled in haste and did not yield. The hounds bark still, the beast must be here. With my skill, the boar I shall spear. The devil runs off and toward my hounds. My feet beat harder on the grounds. From my right hand, I heave my spear. The beast is struck behind the ear. It does not drop but turns its head. Apparent to me, it wishes me dead. Its hooves upturn the dirt and its eyes are ready and alert. I do not see the beast in flight. I know there won't be much a fight. Oh, Venus, oh, Love, where are thee now. Of my hunt you disallowed.
