New Friends *WARNING THIS IS REALLY BAD*

New Friends *WARNING THIS IS REALLY BAD*

A Story by Quinn W

Will walks through the front hallway of Frederick Morris High School, anxiously awaiting his first period class. The first week at a new school is tough for anyone and Will is no exception. Every hair on his body is standing on edge and his stomach is turning. He knows he will do well in school; his academics are not part of his worrying. He's determined to make his mark on this school. New school, new Will. His goal is to find friends. He smiles thinking about the possibility. He never had friends at his old school, though he never tried very hard to.
He stops at the door of Mrs. Berkely's AP Geography classroom. His heart jumps and he walks inside, taking a seat in the second row. Mrs. Berkely makes eye contact with him and smiles, welcoming him to her class. He smiles back at her and gets his notebook and folder out to take notes.
As he reaches into his backpack, a knee meets his head. Will looks up to see who he's collided with and is surprised to see a beautiful girl. She reaches out and touches his head gingerly.
"Are you okay? I'm so sorry."
"Oh. Yes, I'm fine. Sorry," Will replies to the girl. She nods and sits behind him. The teacher then begins the lesson and Will is absorbed into the history of Russian politics.
After the lesson, Will heads out of the classroom but is stopped by the girl that kneed him in the head earlier. She grabs his elbow and leads him to a corner, out of the hustle and bustle of the hallway.
"I'm Casey. You're Will, right?" He nods in response and she continues. "How would you like to come to a club meeting me and my friends are holding? It's going to be so cool. We're going to learn so much about what's beyond our boring, human lives," she says enthusiastically.
"Um, sure, I guess. When is it?" Will asks Casey. She hands him a sheet of red paper with an address and date on it. The meeting is tonight at nine. Casey walks off and Will thinks about what this mysterious club meeting will be about. Beyond our boring, human lives... what the hell does that mean? Will doesn't know, but he wants to find out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mom, I'm leaving!" Will yells out to the kitchen as he walks out the front door. He types the address from the paper into his phone and maps the directions to it. It appears to be a house but it's not near anything else. Odd.
Will approaches a wooded area and becomes concerned that Casey gave him the wrong address. Maybe she's just playing a trick on me? He continues on anyway to find where it leads.
After walking in the woods for a few minutes, he hears music. He follows the sound and sees an old, abandoned house. The house has no windows and is missing half of its roof. He enters through the doorway and is greeted by Casey. She shows him around the house and introduces him to a few of the other people. There's only about ten people there so the club must not be very popular.
"Thanks so much for coming, Will. Now we have just the right amount of people for out ceremony!" says Casey.
"I can't believe it! We're finally going to be able to do it! I feel like we've been waiting forever! We'll make Him so proud of us!" yells another girl from the corner of the house.
"What ceremony?" Will asks, worried that this club might not be what he originally though it would be.
"You'll see... be patient, Will!" Casey says, blowing smoke from her cigarette in his face. Where did she get that? Wow my head hurts...
Will sits down and Casey sits beside him, putting an arm around his shoulders. "It's alright, Will, we all get a little dizzy the first time! Don't worry, it'll be over soon," she says and laughs. Suddenly, Will feels much better and happier.
"What is that stuff? It's great!" Casey smiles at him and hands him one as well, saying it's a secret recipe for happiness. Will agrees.
"Alright guys! It's time for the ceremony!" a boy Will remembers as Ted announces. Ted passes around a bottle of wine and tells everyone to take a drink of it. Will goes first and his head begins to hurt again. This time, though, the pain is worse. His heart begins to beat faster and he realizes what is happening.
"FATHER, WE'RE COMING! WE LOVE YOU AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU, LUCIFER!" Will hears as his vision turns blurry and he slumps over.

I don't consider this bad at all. To me, it was a short, simple piece that kept my interest until the very end. The ending was very unexpected and seemed a little "off" to me, but given the brevity of the story, I must say that it was worth reading. But I do understand that sometimes, the quality of a write can resonate differently with the reader than it does for the author, so your opinion on this piece is certainly understandable.
