Cold MorningA Poem by lightning-bornI woke up, To the sound of a dog barking. My eyelids peeked open, My pupils adjusted to the light through my window. The sun shone so bright, So I expected the warmth To welcome me with a hug When I stepped outside. Things were hard. But at least The universe gave us the sun. Instead a cold breeze chilled the skin of my face, My hands, my legs. It was as if the wind was trying to chase The sky ahead. I felt goosebumps rise slowly on my arms. It was too late to go inside and change. Another false hope, another trick of the light. I get in my car, thinking; At least the sun is bright. Later in the afternoon, it rains. Sometimes I wondered if God was real, and was making fun of me. © 2022 lightning-bornReviews
