Open Fields and Open HeartsA Story by Brandon QuinnA short story about two people that love each other."I just want to teleport," he said, as he laid there beside her staring off into the night sky. It was a chilly night, the water from the rain earlier in the day had started to ice over. They were laying in their favorite spot, an open field amidst a forest of trees in a two person sleeping bag outside of their tent. The air smelt of strawberries, as there was a strawberry farm not even a mile away and the passing winds carried the scent to them. "Why do you want to teleport," she asked with much wonder in the sudden break of silence. They hadn't talk much today. It wasn't their best day. They were both extremely busy with work and their classes that they didn't have much time to spare each other for talks. She rolled over, and looked into his eyes as he stared off at the Moon. "So that I could visit you whenever I wanted to. So that I could always be there to bring you up when you are down," he mumbled as he started to drift off to sleep. He rolled, facing her with his eyes closed and moved his legs so that they were right up against hers. She smiled. She knew that his response was an honest one, filled with all of his emotion. She moved closer to him, putting her nose on his. She moved her nose gently back and forth, an eskimo kiss. He grinned widely. He opened his eyes to find her laying there in front of him, eyes shut and beautifully trying to sleep.. I love you. As this thought ran through his head, he felt her arms press against his chest. She was balling up on him! His heart rate shot through the roof, he didn't know what to say.. I love you.. Was all she thought in her mind. She felt his chest and his pounding heart. Wanting to calm him down, she kissed his nose softly. "I love you," she said as she veered off into a dream where she would once again be greeted by him. In one final push that took everything he had, he leaned in and kissed her on her forehead. He ran his hand through her hair gently and said," I love you." Both awaiting each other in the dream world, he matched her breath hoping that it would help them reconnect in their dreams. He did this every night they spent together. He tucked her in, threw his arm around her and fell asleep, thinking of her big green eyes and her radiant smile that always made him smile in return. He could not wait to see what his dreams held for them tonight.. The Moon seemed to dim, only lighting up the area in which they chose to make camp. The crickets sensing the intensity of their love played such a beautiful song that it was reminiscent and in form of a sonnet. Time came to a standstill as the world around them seemingly admired the beauty of their emotions. Even in sleep they smiled, almost as if they subconsciously sensed one another laying centimeters away from each other. The wind rustled the leaves in such a way that they danced almost as if to celebrate and encourage the sweet embrace of two that are in love. Time passed and everything fell silent. © 2017 Brandon Quinn |
