The Orphan's Lament

The Orphan's Lament

A Poem by Queen Libra
"

A poem I wrote in high school

"
Listen to the raindrops falling
As the wind blows
Calling out for love.
The lonely howl on the window pane
I find is screaming out my name.
The raindrops' cry lull me to sleep
As I dream of what I can't keep.
Sinking hope of my own despair.
I remember a time when you were there.
The beacon of your shining soul
Has left me cold and so alone.

Why can't I be with you
After this long road;
I travel alone
In this world,
So cold and unbearable.
come now and save me.
I'm dying, bleeding, calling
Out for you to save me.

Someday soon when I'm all grown,
I'll find a place to call my home.
And maybe then I'll look for you.
Then, maybe, you can love me too.

Until that day,
So far away,
There's nothing I can do
To release this pain.
As I sit here
And listen to the rain.

This plea moved me beyond all reason to a place of great charity, altruism, empathy and compassion. Few poems can ever do that. This is why it placed so high in Safalta.

Laments can easily turn cliche, but your did not, and it had many delightfully moving lines.
