why do i blog?.. [033108]A Story by em-em zaldivarWhy Do I Blog? [Write?] This question came rather unexpectedly. I’ve been blogging since forever and yet no one has ever asked me that. Except tonight, which I consider as another dull night because of the lack of stars and the absence of the moon, when Marc asked me through text why I blog. The answer was a give away. “I just love to [blogging/writing]. It’s my life. Sayang yung thoughts and emotions ng isang tao kapag hindi nase-share. Who knows? It might make a difference to someone else’s life.” Much of my works might cause some to raise their eyebrows in dismay. Some might object and criticize. Others might say rude comments and even ridicule what I have written about. These are reactions that I cannot manipulate. I will not deny that my feelings are somehow hurt when people dislike what I have written but I respect our divergence. What inspires me to write is not the praises that I receive from people. They motivate me, of course. But I am more moved when I hear them talk about how they can relate to my works. I feel fulfilled every time people tell me how they see themselves in the situation that I myself once have been and I am continuously tangled into. Their gratitude alone for the exchange of feelings brought about by the blogs is enough to make me become proud of myself. I do not only feel satisfied as a writer but I’m happy that I was able to be their friend and companion through the use of pen and paper. The secret to my writing is plain and simple. It wasn’t me who discovered it but my Ninong Jon whom I so love having endless conversations with. He once said that what makes me different is that I write from the heart and that isn’t just talent found in everyone. It’s a gift. I’d like to believe that writing is my calling from God. It’s what I was born to do. Writing isn’t just my passion and I do not only have a flare for it. It’s my life. It’s one of my many purposes for living I put a piece of my heart for everything that I write about. An essay, a poem, a story, a play, a blog – they all are a part of who I am. They tell the story of my life and they make me live through the lives of others by sharing a part of myself to them. “We are not in this world to see how much we have become but what difference we have made on others.” © 2008 em-em zaldivar |
