We were

Scars upon scars
Upon pieces of hearts
Left alone in the dark
We were falling apart

Fairy tales that we knew,
Well, they never came true,
Dusty dreams fading gray
In a land far away
And once upon a time…

We held
Stars beyond stars
Inside of our hearts;
Close, alone in the dark
We saw hope’s shining spark

 

Evil dragons we slew
With the wounds we lived through,

Tear-stains fading like smoke
To a place long ago
And once upon a time…

We had scars.
