Body's Plea

Body's Plea

A Poem by Phoenix Wolf-ray
"

body's longing to be inhabited fully by spirit: a poem

"

Stay with me     don’t leave

stay with me       don’t leave

I am your home         my floors are dusty

my windows are festooned with cobwebs

my hangings are musty

the smell of mildew is everywhere

it is not my fault

            that the roof leaks

it is not my fault that

            the water doesn’t run

stay with me        don’t leave

stay with me              don’t leave

there is noplace better         there is noplace

            that needs your presence more

I am your home          my foundation is yours

the only escape from me is death

            is that what you want?

Stay with me don’t leave

stay with me              don’t leave

I am waiting to be born

my floors will shine               my windows sparkle

my walls will be snug             and festooned with colours

when you stay with me, breathe

light into my darkness          air into my dank corridors

open me to mother earth

let her waters flow through me

let her breezes soothe my hurts

            let her softness enfold me

hold me dear…            stay here
