![]() Voices in the AirA Poem by LynLeeVoices in the Air
The voices. They speak to me. They tell me the things I didn't know. "You're fish is going to die." Sometimes, they were things I didn't want to hear.
The voices, keep me up at night. They put things in my dreams, turning them to nightmares. And soon daymares.
I could never find where the voices came from. I just told myself that they are my friends. Simply being honest, until they showed themselves. I would look out my window, because they told me too.
I saw there faces. Some beautiful, some horrible. First they were only outside, but they followed me. They followed me to school, to the store. Then, they found there way inside.
They would stand at the edge of my bed, play with my toes. Then cut me.
Nobody else saw them. I would point and scream, but all people said were, "Isn't she a little old for an imaginary friend?" I was alone, but I still had the voices.
The voices kept talking. They wouldn't be quiet. I never slept, I never got any work done. My teachers didn't like me. I could never focus in class, never made any friends, always said what the voices told me to say.
For years, they were there. They never went away. They stayed there, pretending I was there world. I could never fight them, but they would fight me. And they always won.
My fish died. The voices told me it would happen, but I tried to ignore them. I was doing good, until they told me another hard truth. "Your going to die next."
And they were telling the truth. © 2011 LynLee |
