The day came......A Poem by LynLeei compete in pageantsThe day came......
My mother glossed my lips. She straightened my hair. She took the polish off my nails, And made a gleam in my eye.
The time I stepped on stage, The way my dress "swooshed", The moment my heel clicked. I looked at my mother, As she gave me a heads up.
I walked up onto stage, The worst part of the night. The moment girls want there names called. The time I get fright. They called girls names. "Anna", "Izzy", "Victoria", And finally, "Lyndsey".
I made it! I made it! The thoughts swirling around. The times of competition, the lifetime of competing, The seconds counting down.
My mind flickers back. It's not done yet, They names being called again. This time, girls don't want there names called, They want it called last. My name still not heard, makes my heart beat fast. "Don't say it yet. Don't say it yet" I say in my mind. The moments flicker in my head, I watch them back, "Stood straighter."
Finally the moment came. I heard my name. Only it wasn't a bad call. It was good.
I smiled as they put the crown on my head, The banner on my shoulder. Tears swelling in my eyes, blowing kisses all over. I walked left, then right. Waving side to side. Looking into the audience my mother stands, with tears in her eyes. © 2010 LynLeeAuthor's Note
