cherry blossom

cherry blossom

A Poem by emily
"

just something i had to put into words. i don't know if it makes sense.

"
she took one look at the flower on the ground
the cherry blossom, perfectly pink and silk

she then was pulled back to another time
one of comfort and distress
one of  sweet warmth and frostbite
bittersweet

a longing, distant feeling pressed against her chest

the feeling was of a sad smile
a burst of joy instantly overcome by gloom

for she reminisced of the time that her boy gave her the cherry blossom
she'd always loved those

but that was a different time

with a different meaning

wow ... delicately melancholy ..well done .. sailed me right along without a hitch .. strong work with contrasts says i .. they are straight forward but very effective... i think the couplets lend foundation to your free verse ..the single line righ in the middle really causes me to pause there ..for me its very dynamic ..its the turn i was waiting for as your poem could go either way ...frostbite or sweet warmth ;) the boy could be anyone .. lover or son .. and she lover or mother .. i think this is beautifully penned ...very relatable .. emotive and touching .. i think of a mother who has lost her son :(

I saw you in writers to watch! That’s awesome!

Just like your other poems, this gives the reader a specific feeling. It just remind me of warm memories on chilly days and remembering times that aren’t yours anymore... and it makes them sooo bittersweet. I love how it shows even just the cherry blossom can remind you of these things, because they probably hold such a special place. Others will look at them and think nothing of it, but in the story?

It reminds them of times that were much warmer no matter how cold things got. Because they had something back then they don’t have now. They loved cherry blossoms, but now they’re just a reminder. It was a whole different time with a whole different meaning and I think you captured that perfectly.
