D.C. to Memphis

D.C. to Memphis

A Chapter by Shawn Purcell
"

Going from one to another on a one way track.

"

Sitting here watching

The sun ride the southern sky/As the sun rode across the sky.

I sat in the back yard

A failed road warrior

With the radio on.

Each word vaguely more nostalgic than the prior.

Chorus

Took the D.C Line to Memphis

Down here its gods country.

There’s a cross in the center of town.

And scripture on the billboards.

They killed king not far from here

Early one April morning.

Be careful when they say it will change you

And if she ever says she’s different she’s lying.
