On The Ride

On The Ride

A Chapter by Shawn Purcell
"

A song about a great girl, a bad situation and a heavy choice.

"

On the ride

I felt a world alive at my fingertips,

To road bent before me

Through the tears

My destination still unknown

The night’s a little colder than I hoped.

But I keep the window open

Because I draw my strength from the night air.

I thought these hills were the mythic lure

Of patriotic fairytales.

The signs down here say god’s real.

They say you feel his spirit near.

On the ride,

I had a lot of time to think.

Signs surprise me.

And sometimes it’s this tension

That somehow has become me.

She stands before me

The myth of the Utah desert.

The ghost of what’s next.

If you’re fast enough you’ll catch her.

I saw her in the brick red

Narrow hallowed hallways

Of an old school I once visited.
