Roots

Roots

A Chapter by Shawn Purcell
"

A song about growing up, letting go and cutting ties...

"

I felt the pit of my gut sink

To the floor

I’m sick of sitting waiting

And here there’s nothing more.

I’ve kept my eyes open

But I don’t see what I’ve been missing.

Trapped in the vision

And you really think you’re winning.

Chorus

Don't bite the hand that feeds you,

And never turn your back.

You better keep running boy

But these roots will hold you down.

That the mighty fall hard

When the ground drops beneath them.

And if I’m the one who’s blind

And this is all a lie.

And all the things they said would matter don’t

And they swore some how it would

The rules are different at here,

But still they love to say,

Chorus 2

Don't bite the hand that feeds you,

And never turn your back.

I tried running

But these roots they hold me down

Chorus 3

These are loving hands that feed you

And we’ll always have your back

Be true to your roots, boy,

And no one can slow you down.
