NightrunnersA Chapter by Shawn PurcellThe song that inspired my tattoo...It's about the lives we envision for ourselves, and how they sometimes don't pan out the way we hope...But still we ride on
It was a rainy
night
In that river bank park she sat alone Praying for the night to save her Or lightning to strike her throne. She cried to me when I walked up " “Will anything make this right?” “Or am I just like the rest of them Bound to live and die?” And like a drop of rain Lost in a storm, We'll be what's left Once the rain is gone. I just held back And watched brick turn to sand Watched the ghosts die in my hands And turn to mist over the land.
Chorus And now they call me the night runner They say I'm like ghost upon the shore, Ride until the night goes black In a desperate search for more.
And now they call us the night runners We line like ghosts upon the shore, We ride until the night fades, Into the dim engine roar.
I guess we were lost somewhere between the seams. Lost between the breeze and heat Like a shirt between its sleeves. She said, “Let’s go, And things will never be the same." And it's ok if we never go back. I'm not sure if its a good idea to go But I know its the last I have to save my soul." And then one day Sipping beer in the summer rain You’ll tell me that you love me And wonder if you were wrong. It’ll be the life we dreamed of, And there’ll be a slamming screen door, I guess we beat that selfish nagging Stabbing at us all.
Chorus 2 Now they call her the night runner, She's like a ghost over the shore, She rides until the night fades Into the dim engine roar.
And now they call me the night runner We line like ghosts upon the shore, We ride until the night gives way, To the dim engine roar. © 2015 Shawn Purcell |
