UnsealedA Chapter by Shawn PurcellA tale of hope and heartache...Down the
streets, dusty sand A long view to
nothing From the porch Where she
stands. Her daddy’s in a
wheel chair And her momma
sleeps alone By her bedside
bottles Topple over from
his rage “Where did you
get these? Don’t you know
that it’s a sin? Don’t you love
me anymore? Is all we are
what’s been?” Daddy’s got a
way with words She says, “He’ll
be ok.” They say he
hasn’t been the same Since a stray
piece of shrapnel Took the use of
his legs. Chorus When you come
unsealed When you become
unspoken When life breaks
the promises You invested all
your hope in When you come
unsealed When you become
unseen When you look
passed the vision Of the things
that are fleeting A note passed on
a napkin “Hey, baby
doll,” it read “I hope to see
you later. I hope to see
you again.” She blushed and
ran inside He would come by
just to see her. But he never
came at all As she waited by
her window. Daddy’s gone,
it’s all done Momma met a man,
he hits her Daddy always
said, “She’d grow to
be bitter.” And she’ll stand
beside the mask, Cry in the rain
as the clouds pass, As lightning
ignites the night sky, And wonder why
all things must end. © 2013 Shawn Purcell |
