BloodA Chapter by Shawn PurcellThis is a bit harsh but...The
blaming and the screaming Burn
like fire all night long I
keep myself awake Crying
down the hall. Once
he’s had his way with her I
bet he’ll come for me. Just
my daddy’s little girl Should
be safe and fast asleep. Chorus It’s
only blood Caked
thick on her face. He
took her innocence And
gave her his name. As
the door creeks slowly open She
pretends that she’s asleep He
sits down on her bed, Sneaks
his hands between the sheets. She
wraps her arms around her pillow Her
insides begin to shake. By
the smell of liquor on his breath Tonight
there’d be no break He
rubs his hands across her lips Down
to the small of her back She
used to try to fight him That’s
when he’d really snap. She
looks to the ceiling crying As
he holds her hands over her head A
girl made a prisoner In
the sheets of her own bed. Chorus
2 It’s
only blood Caked
thick on her face. He
took her innocence And
gave her his name. It’s
only blood Dried
on the sheets Her
mother can’t wash it off Like
the sins of her mistakes. Do
your prayers fall on fossiled ears When
you kneel to pray For
the God that gave life to her To
take her pain away? She
looks into the night Through
a window to the sky Says,
“I went to church on Sunday Where
were you last night?” Breathe
soft, let it go Smile
through the pain Trying
to excuse The
bruises on your face. And
he says he loves her But
she lies to all her friends Instead
of, “I love my father,” it’s, “Oh,
my dad is dead.” Chorus
3 It’s
only blood That
runs like life through her veins He
took her innocence And
gave her his name. It’s
only blood Stained
on the sheets Mom
can’t wash it off With
the sounds of her screams End
Chorus / Bridge It’s
only blood on the pillow It’s
only blood mixed with the tears. It’s
only his blood, Blood
that you fear. © 2013 Shawn Purcell |
