Enough

Enough

A Poem by Breanna Ragland

We cut ourselves

Never too deep

Never enough to die

Just enough to let go of the pain inside

They ask us why

And wonder why we don’t cry

“Are you okay?”

We say were just fine

We don’t need your help

Your pity

Your shame

Its in your eyes… you wish us away

We can’t help what we are

It will always be a part of us

We've made it this far

I think this is enough

Its time to quit

Time to give up

I guess you don’t get it

It’s our minds that are corrupt

“Just keep trying”

That’s what you always say

But it’s never enough

Just please go away

Leave me here

To rot and decay

I’ve got to let it out

I need to feel the pain

 Just promise me

You’ll never speak of this

You told me you’d be my friend

So don’t tell anyone, miss.

Finally alone

A place to call my own

In the corner of my white walled room

Now it’s just the knife, me and you

It scrapes my skin, but not a lot

A crimson bubble, it’s red and hot

I question why but it doesn’t matter now

You just stare with disgust and wonder how

“It’s who I am”

I speak aloud

Your eyes wonder around

Then you stare me down

“Well it needs to stop…”

“This is enough”

You grab my hand

And I start to erupt

“Let me go, I'll hurt you I swear!”

“No you wont dear, there’s not enough up there.”

“Do you think I'm stupid just like you?

Leave now before you get hurt too!”

She’s gone with a flash

As I draw the knife near

I let it touch my flesh

What’s this feeling... is this fear?

These are the last few words I speak to you…

“We’re born this way, remember that too.”

The blood spills over and I can’t pretend

I’ve had enough, this is my end.

Wow, I almost started crying when I read this, it brings me back to preteen-hood, when I had 'the C word' and got all emo, this is really how it felt you did a beautiful job channeling it into a poetic dialog which I find difficult myself. good job!!!

Hello Alex,

So maybe he wasn't worth it. A great portrayal of a cutter. I think you would enjoy the writing of Cassiopia Summers. If you can't find her she is on my friends list. Great write. Great read.

Regards,

Jaidyn
