Imagine Being Me

Imagine Being Me

A Poem by Breanna Ragland
"

For Tyler Clementi.

"
Imagine being me.

Tyler Clementi.

Eighteen years old.

Freshman at Rutgers University

Gay…

Imagine being blackmailed.

Humiliated…

Driven to the brink…

Imagine being me.

Imagine being bullied.

The names they shout.

Imagine the pranks they pull

Imagine being me.

Imagine darkness.

The kind that consumes you.

Imagine feeling lost…

So lost that no one can find you.

Imagine being me.

Imagine the hours of consideration.

What is right and what is wrong?

Imagine the tears shed.

As they splatter everywhere…

Imagine being me.

Imagine skipping the petty things.

The knives, the rope, the gun…

Imagine jumping from six hundred and four feet

Straight to the ground…

Imagine being me.

Imagine more tears…

But now from your family.

They knew what you were and still loved you.

Imagine their pain.

Imagine being them.

Imagine being me.

Tyler Clementi.

Eighteen years old.

Gay…

Dead.
