Chapter 3

Chapter 3

A Chapter by Kakuzu (or so they call me)

I shook my head. If I thought I was confused then I was certainly confused now. I walked down the hallways which seemed to get narrower and thicker but it seemed to not change at all. The photographs on the wall seemed to move or whisper. I even thought I saw a cat fly by a window on feathered wings carring a basket.
Once I saw a strange looking statue, I stopped and pointed it to my guide.
“Yes,” he said, “That is a piece of art work done by a famous art here. It uses the 5 polar opposites of magnets.”
I opened my mouth to say there were only 2 polar opposites, but decided against it. Everything seemed strange here. Almost like a dream. Yes, that is what this is, nothing more but a very strange dream. I must remember not to eat before bed.
We got double door at the end of the hallway. There were many other doors and stairways before now but my guide passed them without a second thought. The door was engraved but I couldn’t see what they were, I also thought it was made of mahogany, if that even existed here.
He turned to me, “Please, the master will explain everything to you but his father is here with his advisor so you are to not speak unless spoken to. Even then, when someone asks a question you are to look at me and I will nod if you are to answer it. This is very important okay?”
I just nodded. I didn’t think I couldn’t say anything even if I wanted to.
Just as he reached for the doorknob the voices that were now no higher then a murmur now raised into two people yelling at each other.
“Do you have any idea what you have done!!! Did you not think about what this could do to our people!!” the first voice said.
“So what was I to do?! Just let her die!!” the second voice said, this one sounded a little familiar.
“YES! EXACTLY! She is only a human! What could have possibly possessed you to do such a thing?!”
The second voice said something so low a quiet it was barely a whisper. The first person sighed heavily and we heard the sound of squeaky furniture as he sat down. Her guide looked over and winked and opened the door.
“Ah, there you are. I was wondering where you were.” The second voice said. I thought it sounded familiar and to extent it should have. It was Marvin. Although when I saw him I couldn’t help but let out a gasp.
He took me hand and bowed, “I feel the same way.”
He looked up and winked and flashed a smile and led me to a straight backed chair to sit down in. I just looked at him. His blonde hair was now black with a purple tint. It was just below his ears and his bangs were side swept but didn’t touch his deep violet eyes. He wore a black suit with a tail on it and a black shirt underneath. It has purple accents and no tie but it was slightly unbuttoned. His face now seemed more angled but rounder at the same time so it didn’t have that pointy effect as I knew it before. His voice was lower, sexier, not as much gravely but it had texture.
“So you are the little earth flower my son was talking about?” The first person said.
I turned my head to see a person sitting on the couch. He looked older with grey hair. He looked friendly now but he could definitely look scary when he was mad. He was still fit for his age, but you could see some scars that were from fighting. Maybe?
I realized he has said son and was going to ask a question but I remembered what my guide has said. All three people looked at me and I looked back, though not straight in the eye, and folded my hands in my lap.
The father looked on Marvin and said, “She’s not bad looking and has nice posture. Maybe we could pass her off as a pixie.”
Marvin looked mad, “Idril would you go and get us…”
All of a sudden another person walked through the door and Marvin motioned never mind as he spoke, “Am I interrupting something?”
This man was tall and skinny. He wore an expensive looking black cloak. His hair was shoulder length and also black, but greasy. His eyes were a beady and black. His voice was smooth and slick. He has a hooked nose and skin that was very white but too white to be beautiful.
He noticed me and walked over and touched my cheek with the back of his hand, “Is this the little girl who has caused so much trouble? You don’t look like much.”
“Don’t touch her.” Marvin said and put his hand on my shoulder.
He pulled his hand back like it was his idea to draw it away and bowed almost apologetically but never kept his eyes off of Marvin’s. “Why her? Yes, she is not bad to look at, but compared to the women of the court she is nothing.”
“Back off Alassea, you snake .” Marvin dangerously, quietly said.
“Now, now, son, you need to respect my advisor. We have been over this before.”
“Oh Dear.” A women said as she walked into the room, “You two have been put in a room less then 10 minutes together and now look what happens.”
Idril, I know his name now, motioned for me to stand up and I did.
“Yes, yes. I know there is no need for that. Sit down.”
I sat down and Marvin sat in the chair next to me. Idril stood behind Marvin and Alassea stood behind his father. The women sat beside him.
I looked at her. Her dress was large like mine but it was green and had more lace and frills. It also looked like it has gold sewn into the fabric. Her hair was green and curly and pinned up on top of her head. She smelled of sun light and fresh apples. Her eyes also had green eyeliner and green lips. She looked young but there were a few wrinkles here and there to give her a motherly look.
“Now darling, what is your name?”
I looked at Idril and he nodded, “People call, uh, called, call me Johanna.”
That’s a pretty name, she smiled but there seemed to be something behind I couldn’t put my finger on, “That’s a nice name. But we’ll have to change it. From now on your name will be, er, Sairalindë Nessa. How does that sound? Amdor? Tasogare?” She looked around for approval.
The man nodded in an approvel, I take it his name is Amdor. Tasogar/Marvin just shrugged his shoulders. Alassea clasped his hands together and pretended to wipe a tear from his eye, “That is a beautiful name your highness. Very generous, you should do that for a job.”
“Now, now,” the women glowed, “I told you to call me Laurë and maybe I’ll have to look into that naming business.”
I finally got what they were doing, “You can’t just rename me?” I protested.
“Oh yes we can darling and frankly we have to. It’s bad enough having humans running around but if anyone knew…Oh dear, what a mess that would be.”
Idril seemed to talk to Tasogare with his eyes and he got the message that his parents needed to go right now. He stood up, “Mother, Father, I am always pleased seeing you but Sairalindë just got here. Why don’t you two go out and have a picnic near the pond I will have Idril arrange everything.”
Laurë stood up, “Doesn’t that sound great darling. Come on let do it. Idril? Would you mind showing us the way?”
“No ma’am. Right this way.” He showed the two out the door.
Alassea stood where he was. Tasogare took him by the arm and lead him out the door, “Why don’t you go to the library. I’m sure we have plently of books on blood, or torture, or snakes or whatever you read.” He closed the door before he could protest and locked it. He smiled at me, “Sorry about that. It wasn’t my plan to have you meet them when you first got up but word travels fast and they insisted to see you as soon as they could. Do you think it’s stuffy in here? Let me open the curtains.”
He walked behind a desk that I had just noticed and opened the curtained window. I looked away as the light flooded in, “Oh I forgot.” He said, “You wouldn’t be used to the clean light and besides your not a fan of it anyways.” He clapped his hands and the light was lessened, like someone put on sunglasses, but the glass was still perfectly clear and didn’t effect the colors.
I looked around the room, the closest thing I could say to sum it all up was that it looked like the oval office. I can imagine that is where the idea of this came from. I walked over to the window to acres and acres of beautiful gardens with flowers and trees and fountains. I even saw a lake where swans swam. Beyond all the gardens where fields with workers working as far as the eye could see.
Tasogare stood right behind me. I didn’t notice him until he said, “Yes, gorgeous isn’t it? You can’t see, but the gardens surround the house there is even hot tubs in some of the pavilions and on the other side of the house is the swimming pool.”
“Where am I?”
He pointed to a map on his desk and answered with a single word, “Silmarwen.”
