Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves

A Poem by Samuel Dickens
"

Aren't they pretty?

"

Autumn's red and yellow leaves

leap from mother twigs and flee

Floating, flitting, all around

Soon enough, they all come down

Blowing here and piling there

I rake and scoop and pull my hair

Stuffing bags the size of  trucks

Autumn leaves, you really suck!

Falling leaves are a problem to gather up, Sam and they can't be left on the footpath because once they become wet after rain, it is so very easy to slip on them. I love this succinct Autumn poem. The imagery brings the words to life and in the reader's mind form a picture of a frustrated person trying to get all the leaves into a huge sack and I feel, the wind is trying to help them escape? Autumn is truly a magical season, Sam and you have captured it superbly in this truly delightful poem. Thank you for writing it and thank you for sharing it, Sam. Lovely work, dear friend...

Nicely stated battle of the falling leaves! I also love autumn, but haven't lived in places where raking leaves is necessary (thankfully!) Nice playfulness, despite the annoyance, & good rhyme & rhythm!

Finally, a autumn poem that speaks to me! Lol I'm not a fan a fall myself. It's even worse when the leaves are from a neighbors tree. Bravo!

Thanks, Francis. There's much I like about autumn, but could do without the leaf raking.
Lovely poem, Sam. :) Autumn leaves are very pretty, yet they can be annoying when they fall and pile up.
I enjoyed it!

Love this! Enjoyed your fresh perspective on the autumn inspiration. I was totally there...would always much rather rake them in a pile and roll around in them, which I think as a kid, would end up happening anyway...

Good illustration in your avatar. Your leaves sound like they are SO happy to be free. They enjoy their ride on the wind, but they get the most joy through frustrating you after they become bored with wind surfing, lol. I HAVE seen some really huge bags of leaves.

Welcome to fall. Fun, fabulous and exciting for us all!

Thanks. I love fall, despite the leaves.
oh dear, I suppose it's not fun to shovel sackfuls of dead leaves. I've never had to do that. nor shovel snow. I've always thought of it as an artistic tableau. the funny second half of your poem tells a different story.
