Shining a light

I want to paint a picture, one with many shades

of varying bright colors--dynamic, never staid

I want to paint a picture that looks like real life

Displaying the complexities of happiness and strife

I want to paint a picture that speaks a thousand words

Made of fact and logic (though some, this may disturb)

I want to paint a picture that shines a bright light

freeing closed minds that see in black and white

I like this beautiful poem very much and how the artist would like to bring awareness through his painting to closed minds who only see black and white, no grey, no other colours. A very noble thought! I hope this thought comes to fruition and wakes people up who live their lives in sleeping mode, so they become fully aware of what they have missed all along and learn to enjoy the amazing colours in life which surround them. THis is very good; you write poetry almost as well as you write prose. I try to paint, but have no real gift for it.

Look carefully at your last two lines. I think each of them needs an extra syllable.

Thank you, Claire. I'm often flumoxed by the huge difference in my beliefs/opinions and those of some others. I honestly think they have their brains turned off. Of course, they probably look at me, scratch their heads and think, "That Sam is soooo wierd!"

Oh, what wonderful thoughts.......yes, may minds see in the full colors of life and not just the black and white as we so often do - intending myself as I struggle with certain issues in life, and I can be soooooo dang opinionated! I am trying to be more accepting of differing views but having been raised by a Drill Sgt. father, it can indeed be a challenge!!!...lol

I'm glad you liked the poem. I'm pretty rigid in a lot of my ideas, too, but have made a little progress over the years "sofening" them up. You wouldn't have known me thirty years ago. The painting, well, I only wish that was my work. I suck at landscapes.
