Light Snow And Heavy Memories

Light Snow And Heavy Memories

A Poem by Pete
"

In winter we lead a more inward life. Our hearts are warm and cheery, like cottages under drifts. - Thoreau

"
Father-son duo scoop snow for good

i'm with you in the driveway
you in your frayed, woolen, bruins hat
me in childhood innocence

yesterday's snow was heavier than i thought
"always bend before you lift", you said
it's always worst at the edge, where the driveway meets the street
where the passing plow piles it high
where old memories never melt

Author's Note

Pete
"We are made happy when reason can discover no occasion for it. The memory of some past moments is more persuasive than the experience of present ones. There have been visions of such breadth and brightness that these motes were invisible in their light." - Thoreau

A memory of childhood that resonates through the years, through every potential snowfall. How well I remember. The driveway was the worst, because of the snow from the street being stockpiled to the side. Once there, it seemed to take on a life all its own, lasting forever. A great piece of writing, Pete. Thanks for the memory!
