We Don't Always Reap What We Think We're Sowing

We Don't Always Reap What We Think We're Sowing

Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders. - Thoreau

Life Lessons From a Farmer Scattering Seed

i scattered what i thought were undeniable seeds
searched for truth amidst tall weeds
clinging tightly to choked, prayer beads
over and over, repeatedly, as my will concedes

all i got was a heart that bleeds
a soul that continually needs
and an empty bag of yesterday's proceeds
no matter the seeming richness of my deeds

i seek the four walls, stained glass and steeple of a church
but salvation lies within
as i till the soil of my will
and rake the dirt of my sin
no matter how bountiful the harvest, no matter how deep the search
as yet another weed crops up
no matter the weather i find myself in

Author's Note

Pete
"I find it, as ever, very unprofitable to have much to do with men. It is sowing the wind, but not reaping even the whirlwind; only reaping an unprofitable calm and stagnation. Our conversation is a smooth, and civil, and never-ending speculation merely." - Thoreau
