Purple Hearts, Red Blood And Fallen Tears

Purple Hearts, Red Blood And Fallen Tears

A Poem by Pete
"

We cannot well do without our sins; they are the highway of our virtue. - Thoreau

"
Troubled Minds and Purple Hearts ...

he joined the corps
raised his hand and swore
won all the battles but lost the war

no one ever held the door
that's what sunken chests, rusty medals, top drawers,
squeaky wheelchairs and fallen tears are for

My heart bleeds for those who made that choice. For love of country they were sacrificed and yet are they really appreciated? Today most youngsters don’t give a toss about the UK. They would happily see a dictator in charge. Well, I think they have got one, and I wonder about those who fought for freedom. Your poem stirred me Pete and I shed a tear for those departed.

"won all the battles but lost the war"
This statement alone tells a lot... I think it's not a real war loss, it's a family and more. They're losing life, without dying. strong.

we can never give them enough thanks, praise and respect that they deserve.
In the US now, less people are signing up for careers in the armed forces....that tells us something...and those who are in the military and must fight overseas are in utter danger...either their bodies come back in wooden coffins, draped with a flag, or they come back injured for which they get no praise....only suffering, anguish, depression, even suicide....they can no longer cope with reality...so, as you say, they may have won the battle, but not the war...that lingers....very nice write Pete!
