When It's Time To 'Leave'

When It's Time To 'Leave'

A Poem by Pete
"

Even a little shining bud which lies sleeping behind its twig and dreaming of spring, perhaps half concealed by ice, is object enough. - Thoreau

"
Nature News: Red maple buds enjoying ...

incapable of telling a lie
sprouting from seemingly nowhere
growing and maturing
holding on through storms
changing colors

falling from the sky
curled up and dry
as they lay down to die
no reason to cry
no need to ask why
left to be raked or taken up by some other guy

Author's Note

Pete
"It is pleasant to walk over the beds of these fresh, crisp, and rustling leaves. How beautifully they go to their graves! how gently lay themselves down and turn to mould!-- painted of a thousand hues, and fit to make the beds of us living." - Thoreau

The first line pretty much describes my view of nature. Yes, it is honest, pure, and incapable of being like us. From hopeful green bud to dry leaf being raked by some guy, it's life cycle is glorious. We clumsy bipeds should take notice. I can always take something useful from your poems.

Honest like children...Playful until old age turns their color and then rips them from the tree of life.
