Second Nature

Second Nature

A Poem by Re-Pete
"

All the laws of nature will bend and adapt themselves to the least motion of man. - Thoreau

"
nature. - Henry David Thoreau ...

as a flock of geese fly in a perfect, honking, 'v' formation
bound for an undeniable, warmer destination
a thin veil of early winter's bracing snow rests upon truth's terra firma
smoke from a soul's chimney curls upward in a question mark
threadbare trees stand at attention in winter's shivering economy

summer's bow and autumn's colored wrapping paper a distant memory
creation's faithfulness yet reassuring in seasonal, yellowed pages of deuteronomy
free will trudges on in ardent autonomy
behind dark glasses, heaven floats in far-off, eternal, reclusion
oblivious to man's laws of science and cataract, clouded astronomy

Author's Note

Re-Pete
"I believe in the forest, and in the meadow, and in the night in which the corn grows. I found in myself, and still find, an instinct toward a higher, or, as it is named, spiritual life, as do most men, and another toward a primitive rank and savage one, and I reverence them both. I love the wild not less than the good." - Thoreau
