Last Leg

Last Leg

A Poem by Pete
"

I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society. - Thoreau

"
Two-Legged Stool

day sunny but night's clouds now rule
moon marked absent like a missing jewel
schooling the wise along with the fool
from a soft shoe shuffle
rain tap dances 'pon the roof
drooling down my window pane
its rhythm like a song
ground wet with someone's spent tears
river lifting its glass to imbibe
shrugging shoulders at its overdrawn banks

trees stand bare at attention, in solemn contemplation
whispering sweet sorrows
rumors of cheer
not swaying, just saying
change is beneficent
realms come and go
eternity is forever
ushered and ordained
darkness unsettling and cool
life but a three-legged stool

"A single gentle rain makes the grass many shades greener. So our prospects brighten on the influx of better thoughts. We should be blessed if we lived in the present always, and took advantage of every accident that befell us." - Thoreau
