"The very dogs that sullenly bay the moon from farm-yards in these nights excite more heroism in our breasts than all the civil exhortations or war sermons of the age." - Thoreau

I just watched a PBS documentary on Hitler and Nazi Germany last night! In one of his first speeches Hitler declared, "Long live the Socialist Republic" but later he rounded up the socialists and had them exterminated along with the Jews. That's how people like Hitler come to power, feed them their dream until they choke on it and it grows into a global nightmare. He idolized Bonito Mussolini and fashioned himself after the fascist dictator. We must never stop believing there is right and wrong and seek to follow the path of enlightenment made clear by study and observation. An excellent write, my friend.

You made a brilliant observation in your reply about whether we can or would be willing to stand up .. read moreYou made a brilliant observation in your reply about whether we can or would be willing to stand up for our principles even if it meant our death. I'm also reminded of a movie quote, "You may not know it but there's some things that gnaw at a man worse than dying" Kevin Costner in Open Range I believe that. It's better not to die because as the old proverb goes, "A living dog is better than a dead lion" but I also believe it's better to die standing up for what you believe than to live under tyranny and oppression. I fear there are many who will find out the hard way you can vote communism in but you can't vote it out again. What I grew up calling "patriotism" spoken loud and proud is now called "nationalism" and it's spat out as a vile accusation at those who love their country. It's a sad state of affairs. Thanks for inspiring thought as you so often do. F.

I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
