Flavoring

A Poem by Pete
"

... I was rich, if not in money, in sunny hours and summer days. ... - Thoreau

"

dog days pant
as a known time says it no longer can
no, it can't

summer is waning
exhausted and straining
cast shadows elongated
as the sun is no longer able to reach former heights
darkness spreads its blanket earlier and earlier
tucked into the corners of chillier nights

another season spent
a harvest of joyous memories lent
yet more blessings sent
where did it go
where is it that it went
what did it say
what was meant
well, at least it left a pleasant scent

What a lovely poem, nicely written about Autumn is nearing,
It highlights the emotional resonance of memories, time passing, and the sensory experiences associated with summer, and now its ending....

The use of "dog days" evokes a specific time in summer, while "darkness spreads its blanket" personifies the onset of autumn, creating a warm yet melancholic atmosphere.

This poem is encouraging us readers to reflect on our own experiences and the beauty found in both memories and the inevitability of change.

Thanks for sharing this poem,
Nicely penned.

Love the quote by Thoreau. Time flys by so fast. Cape Diem.

I love this finely penned poem which informs the reader that Summer is about to depart and Autumn is about to arrive. The pleasant scents of Summer will soon be no more, but the many blessings of Autumn will be enjoyed. I also love how the poet depicts the evenings are drawing in and getting darker earlier. A seasonal poetic gem, very artistically expressed and poetically charming. I so enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing, Pete...
