Woolgathering

Woolgathering

A Poem by Pete

Woolgathering | NGV

it's a warm, humid night
you'd be hard pressed to cut the air with a chainsaw
the spent day filled with delight and the long night weighed down by twisted fright
the aura is heavy like lead
spinning 'round and  'round in what's left of my square head
black and white turned to gray and wrong morphed into right
stuck between mortality's plight and eternity's light

lost in rumors of war and sweat of the season
off in the distance i hear a drum and fife
i awaken suddenly following a macabre, sullen dream
only to find that the dream is my life
i'm drowning in an unnavigable, shallow stream
walking an impossible, narrow balance beam
a crisis of faith manifested in a sobering scream
my soul coming apart at the seam
another victim of doubt's hypocritical scheme
stirred, spilled coffee, black, without sugar or cream

An interesting piece of mortality, written here. The insecurities we all have and feel, moments of doubt and suffering . We never know what we must endure but I believe we will overcome, one way or another. We often feel like the boy's father who was forced to confront his doubt and shouted. "I believe, help me overcome my disbelief." Mk. 9:24 But we must remember that Jesus did just that. Excellent write. I enjoyed reading it. F.
