I Think That I Shall Never See ...

I Think That I Shall Never See ...

A Poem by Pete

As naturally as the oak bears an acorn, and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. - Thoreau

"
The Eternal Tree

i want to carve my sins into the bark of a joshua tree
storing them for eternity in a living, breathing trunk for everyone to touch and see
so that i can be free
yes, me
with only god holding the golden key

but i don't want to harm creation, let alone eden
so i think i'll just leave it be
watering it with tears instead
because as my muse once said,
"every creature is better off alive than dead"
and not nailed to upright wood, bleeding the ground at calvary red

deeply emotive and philosophical, Pete ... I'm glad you did not carve the Joshua tree ;) really thought provoking closing line for me sir ... God wants us all to return to Eden from whence, by heritage, we are fallen .. Calvary was and is the final gift of a way for us all to look beyond the grave and find peace, comfort and assurance in this life ... which will never hold a candle to life with our Creator :) ... great wonderful write says i!
