A Day At The Beach

A Day At The Beach

A Poem by Pete
"

My life is like a stroll upon the beach. - Thoreau

"
How Old Are You Really, Revere Beach ...

a molten sun shone
impish waves washed
surf, sand, shells and foaming seaweed flew
folks not quite sure just what to do
chatoyant umbrellas wrestled with a starched, stiff-collared, coastal breeze
thong bikinis wedged like dental floss
but all was not a loss
no matter the journey or cost

reminding that pearly gates aren't plausible for a leech
a convicting tide stood up to preach
as a stealth undertow dragged the unsuspecting down into the breach
heaven and hell so close and eternity within reach
so much to learn and a plethora to teach
to each his own and his own to each
the bigger the pit the sweeter the peach
you can't whiten darkness with bleach
just another tricky day at the beach

Author's Note

Pete
"The sea-shore is a sort of neutral ground, a most advantageous point from which to contemplate this world. It is even a trivial place. The waves forever rolling to the land are too far-travelled and untamable to be familiar. Creeping along the endless beach amid the sun-squall and the foam, it occurs to us that we, too, are the product of sea-slime." - Thoreau

thanks twc. with all this heat, i've been dying for a day there.
The first part is almost a sepia calotype of the subject. Whilst the second verse becomes far more complex and literal. Intense almost. I like the style of both and I enjoyed the subject. The poet left us many ways in.
