Talking To Strangers

Talking To Strangers

A Poem by Pete
"

When you knock, ask to see God — none of the servants. - Thoreau

Premium Photo | A man sits on a bench ...

passing by leaky, abandoned mangers
i walk the worn, forlorn streets of this torpid town
always ending up at my favorite bench in the shade down by the brown, murky river
where i talk to god
despite my mother having told me to never talk to strangers

Author's Note

Pete
"It is not when I am going to meet him, but when I am just turning away and leaving him alone, that I discover what God is. I say, God. I am not sure that that is the name. You will know what I mean." - Thoreau

Despite the worn streets and abandoned surroundings, you find solace on a favorite bench by the murky river, where you converse with God. The contrast of seeking spiritual connection against childhood advice adds depth, revealing a yearning for understanding in a seemingly indifferent world. Your poem conveys a reflective journey amidst quiet resilience and the search for meaning. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful piece of writing.

"His fingerprints are everywhere
I just look down and stop and stare
Open my eyes and then I swear
I saw God today" Monty Criswell/Rodney Clawson

We never can tell where God might find us but sometimes we may have to wait as we are all on His time.
