It is better to have your head in the clouds, and know where you are... than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them, and think that you are in paradise. - Thoreau

Back to the Future: Maynard Continues ...

following last night's acid rain
dawn was ushering in with an ankle sprain as it tried its best to ignore the pain
the air so thick this morning, you could wring it like a sponge
the sun was trying its best to burn through it
only adding sweaty fuel to an already uncomfortable fire
i asked myself why i was bothering to shower and get dressed only to perspire
but the situation was not entirely futile and dire

nearby, the river gurgled goo goos and gaa gaas as it drooled over its newfound albeit tarnished wealth
a menstrual flow without the cramps
licked, stuck and cancelled like old stamps
spilling over its muddy banks
another day here in a creepy, sleepy, old, mill town
no shortage of old, weathered, mortared bricks
having long since run out of new ideas for its tricks
at a loss for newfangled pranks
as it bends over and waits patiently for a new day's disciplining spanks
