Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)

Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)

A Poem by Pete
"

I have, as it were, my own sun and moon and stars, and a little world all to myself. - Thoreau

"
Very rare' solar storm makes northern ...

northern fire lights bright
curtain call at breathless, dancing height
sun's particles breakdancing beyond fast
slamming into earth's pitched roof
magnetic field redirecting to a pole
opening night for a cinematic extravaganza
drama unfurled
hues and hair both painlessly curled
here, in this mystical, magical world

blessed and caressed
front row seat
oh so sweet
terpischore's chromatic waltz
in heaven's hued palace
hypnotizing
mesmerizing
hardly a bust
this standing-room-only  show called aurora borealis
just for us

"Nevertheless, even by night the sky is blue, and not black; for we see through the shadow of the earth into the distant atmosphere of day, where the sunbeams are reveling." - Thoreau

They are beautiful Pete - a highlight of the north if you ever happen this way.

Last week the KP index was high, aurora charted closer to the equator than it has in a long time. Sightings were reported as far south as Florida (not to mention across everyone's social media platforms). Was wondering if any from the café had seen them, and in part was anticipating a few aurora pieces to appear on our feeds. Yours is the first I've seen yet. :)

Speaking for myself, we see them frequently up here - my partner likes to follow the forecasts and tries to wake me up to watch from our porch. I've always preferred seeing them spontaneously, on the way home from somewhere, or by some form of accident.

She doesn't appreciate my lack of enthusiasm, but I've always felt that beautiful moments don't happen on purpose. We stumble across them, by chance, and its the rarity of it that lends itself to the beauty.

Appreciate reading man, hope you're well.
