Sand Castles

Sand Castles

A Poem by Pete
"

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them. - Thoreau

"
How do sandcastles stay together ...

in another time
with another rhyme
another dimension
defying all fear and apprehension
we built a castle at the shore
a castle of love, sand, saltwater and nothing more
marveling at its grandeur and wanting to preserve it
we surrounding it with a moat
and a dead muse's living quote
one that reaches out and grabs by the throat

but alas, the tide rose
exposing our beggars clothes
slapping and splashing us back into a stark reality
a reality desiring to disagree
lost in the throws
a harsh reality where everything shows
and only tomorrow knows
how to knock down the walls of our woes
as the water of tears goes
wherever it wants to go
