In The Not So Still of The NightA Poem by PeteI put a piece of paper under my pillow, and when I could not sleep I wrote in the dark. - Thoreaudarkness weighs heavily, a necklace of cinder blocks loneliness pressing in from all sides, pressuring crickets boast a deafening roar owls don't ask because they know who grass is heard growing, hearts beating and prayers begging 'pon microphoned lips a cough is a nuclear explosion a wind shift delivers the constant whoosh of cars out on the freeway cars going nowhere boogeymen live in closets and dust bunny condos 'neath beds with the key to the door toothless puppets on long strings chatter and wander aimlessly through cobwebbed hallways of empty minds searching for lost memories need i say more © 2024 PeteAuthor's Note
