Oh, Woe Is Me

Oh, Woe Is Me

A Poem by Pete
"

A field of water betrays the spirit that is in the air. It is continually receiving new life and motion from above. It is intermediate in its nature between land and sky. - Thoreau

"
Assabet River - Wikipedia

i asked the swollen, angry river
who is it that makes you flow
why do rise so high and other times sink so low
who and what makes it so
oh, please tell me, give me the scoop, blow-by-blow

it scratched its sodden head and answered that it did not know
all it knew was that it was in a hurry to get to the sea
could not stay to chat and had to go
then, still out of breath, told me to please, just leave it be
oh, woe is me

Author's Note

Pete
"The life in us is like the water in the river. It may rise this year higher than man has ever known it, and flood the parched uplands; even this may be the eventful year, which will drown out all our muskrats. It was not always dry land where we dwell." - Thoreau

Life is much like a river; rising and falling for no reason other than it is. We often flow in a direction because it has become routine and go where the road takes us every day.

Sometimes we don’t have an answer as to why we do something and many times in life we simply need alone space and time to breathe; letting out all the negativity and chaos in our beings. Sometimes we ask someone a question and they don’t have an answer and want to be left to their own devices.

I love the last two lines in this piece!!
