Night CourtA Poem by PeteJustice is sweet and musical; but injustice is harsh and discordant. Thoreauensconced in circular reconciliation prayers long since spent a glooming night of perceived exoneration dances the undeniable pressure of truth in a march wind as it presses its sequestered face against the convicting window hearing the back-and-forth whistle and hum in its hammering song of testimony a prelude of seasonal change on the cusp swaying trees are being sworn in the river down below continues its flow of due diligence a jury of poets, priests, politicians and alcoholic street bums all pushing miscarriages of justice through the streets litigation and lies await in a trial of unavoidable, arresting slumber as the heavy gavel of eyelids falls without retribution in this world, in this life it is sought elsewhere in desperation knowing that some men tread heavily in bold arrogance others lightly as they trip on paths of ill-conceived discernment darkness reminding that things aren't always as they seem no need to stir coffee that has neither sugar nor cream as i commence yet another trial seeking clues of vindication through a magnifying glass of unceremonious revelation along with tipping scales of travesty sipping and guzzling alike walking the long, dimly-lit, hallway of an ever narrowing balance beam off in the distance of la-la land, i hear the gasping jingle of stainless-steel shackles along with the squealing buzzer as doors with bars slide open if only in a dream © 2024 PeteAuthor's Note
